Race Planning

Location & Registration

Camping

• Primitive Camping Available Friday – Monday (April 30th – May 3rd) at no added cost
• No open campfires
• Parking area is large, open, and flat. Bring your big rigs if you would like.
• We will have a central campfire in the worker pits (near the house) Saturday night. You’re welcome to join us!

Scoring

• Amateur (Minus A) scores are determined by placement in race 2
• Pro and A classes are determined via moto scoring from race 2 and 3
• Do NOT stop near the finish or checkpoint as you will be double scanned and cause issues with scoring.

Schedule

• Friday April 30th: Gates Open at 4PM. Camping available at no added cost. No riding allowed
• Saturday May 1st:
  • Gates Open at 9AM
  • Pre-registration and packet pickup: Noon to 6PM – Bring your helmet to registration
  • Riding available ($10) – Not on designated trail – No SXS’s or 4-wheelers.
  • 3PM – Straight Rhythm Endurocross. Sign up at registration. No added cost from the $10 day riding fee. Amateur and Pro Women winners of each class to be given a free Oneal gearset (Pants, Jersey, and gloves). Pro Men winner to get $200. 
• Sunday May 2nd:
  • 8AM: Race 1 -> Hot Lap
    • Description: 1 shortened lap with limited hard obstacles. 1.5hr hard cut off time to the last row.
    • Starting Lineup: Rows of 5 based on when you registered (chosen at time of registration) 1min between rows.
      • NOTE: First 2 rows reserved for top 10 overall from 2020. Rows 3 & 4 reserved for top overall riders in EEC series.
    • Length: ~5 miles
    • Outside Assistance: Allowed as needed
    • All Riders qualify to Race 2 regardless if you finish the hot lap within the allotted time or not.
  • 11:00AM: Race 2 -> Amateur Final / Pro & A Moto-1
    • Description: 2 laps with additional hard obstacles. 1 checkpoint at ~1/2 way through the lap. 2hr hard cut off time to the last row.
    • Starting Lineup: Rows of 5 based on finish placement in hot lap. 1min between rows.
    • Length: ~7 miles
    • Outside Assistance: Allowed as needed
  • 3:00PM: Race 3 -> Pro & A Moto-2
    • Description: Top 30 from Iowan 1 advance to final. As many laps as you can do within a 2hr hard cut off time from the last row. This means you must get to the final checkpoint or finish the lap within 2hrs. If you get to the checkpoint or finish the lap after 2hrs and 1min you will not be scored. All hard obstacles will be included in this race.
    • Starting Lineup. Rows of 5 based on finish placement in race 2. 1min between rows.
    • Length: ~8miles
    • Outside Assistance: NONE! – Riders may help other riders.
  • 6:30PM: Trophy Presentation

Rules

• We are following the AMA’s extreme off road rules
• Refund Policy – Refunds will be given if the race is cancelled. Refunds can be requested if the race is postponed to a different date. There are no refunds if you sign up and decide not to race.
• Protesting – There will be a protest period after each race for 30min.
• Cheating – Absolutely no cheating will be tolerated. If you are reporting cheating, you need to have evidence (video). Once reviewed and confirmed that rider will be notified and removed from the results.
• No pit racing. All pit vehicles must be driven/ridden <10mph. SXSs and 4-wheelers are only allowed Sunday and only to be used when going to/from spectator points. Speeds outside of racing must be <10mph. Failure to follow these rules will result in you parking your vehicle or being asked to leave. It is not a play riding day.

DO’s and DON’TS:

• Do NOT make any alterations to the trail. If you feel something needs to be changed, please reach out to event staff to discuss. 
• If you are on site prior to the race, do NOT ride the extreme sections/trails. This includes the straight rhythm endurocross being built. 
• Do NOT cut the course during the event. We have a number of trail minders to ensure everyone enjoys the proper trail. The last thing we want to do is disqualify someone for cheating. 
• DO change your thought process for the race. You will likely be off your bike at multiple points of each race. We utilize an enduro start to mitigate bottlenecks as much as possible, but they are still inevitable with this type of race. The people stuck around you are your best friends in these situations. Get off your bike and start dragging one another through as needed.  
• DO be respectful of the riders around you. You very well may be getting lapped during race 2 & 3. Be observant of your surroundings and make room as needed for riders lapping you. 
• DO be respectful of the land. If you pack it in, you pack it out. You will also be given a trash bag at the gate.
• DO be respectful to the staff (AMA & Iowan) 
• DO be patient with scoring. As you will find out, this is a black hole for any cellular service. To update scoring, we will need to sync devices with the primary network. 
• Lastly, DO have fun. For the 99% of us, this sport is purely masochistic fun.
